With reference to your letter of the 27th of February

last, I am directed by the Marquis of Salisbury to transmit

to you, to be laid before Mr Secretary Chamberlain, a

copy of a note which has been redeived from the Netherlands

Minister at this Court stating that the Netherlands Minister

at Peking is able to give to Her Majesty's Representative

at that Capital full information with regard to the fabric-

-ation of Ryksdaalers in China. The Note also states that

rhe coins are sent via Hongkong, to Singapore and the Dutch

possessions in India.

Her Majesty's Charge d'Affaires has been authorized

to support any representations which the Netherlands Minister

may be instructed to make to the Chinese Government for the

detection and punishment of the coiners and I am directed by

the Marquis of Salisbury to suggest, for Mr Chamberlain's

consideration, that the authorities at Hongkong should be

instructed to take such steps as may be possible for the

suppression
